The word Kyma originates from the ancient Greek verb “kyo” = to swell. Kyma = Wave, characterizes the disturbance that propagates in space and time, usually through a medium.

About
Welcome to Kymatic Roots! I am Ana Sonar and I have been involved with music, audio and visuals for more than a decade. After my university research on the influence of music/sound over the spectators’ psyche and emotions, I gained many years of experience as a radio producer and DJ, diving deep into the music. Being a free dancer myself and member of the organising team of an international dance music festival in Greece, gave me valuable insights on how the music flow, the tempo and the vibrations can be powerful transformative tools.
On 2015 the impactful frequencies of Gongs appeared on my path and together with the Gong Master Alexandros Surya Deva, the Gong Journey started, to be continued later with further trainings by Gong Masters Don Corneaux and Kay Karl. I am member of CMA as a recognised sound practicioner and in 2025 I started further studies in Musictherapy at the ZHdK.
Parallel on time, the free dancer soul met Ecstatic Dance as the perfect condition on sharing music in a liberate dance floor guided by the intuition and the collective spirit.

Ecstatic Dance
Ecstatic dance is a form of free dance in which the dancers, without the need to follow specific steps, abandon themselves to the rhythm and move freely as the music takes them, leading to trance and a feeling of ecstasy. The effects of ecstatic dance begin with ecstasy itself, which may be experienced in differing degrees. Dancers are described as feeling connected to others, and to their own emotions. The dance serves as a form of meditation, helping people to cope with stress and to attain serenity.
Ecstatic dance has been practised throughout human history, including in classical times by the maenads, followers of the wine-god Dionysus. In the ancient and widespread practice of shamanism, ecstatic dance and rhythmic drumming are used to alter consciousness in spiritual practices. Ecstatic sacred dances are known also from religious traditions around the world. Modern ecstatic dance was revived by Gabrielle Roth in the 1970s and formalised in her 5Rhythms practice; it is now found in variants across the western world.

No dance experience or partner is necessary or needed. On one hand it’s a perfect outlet for those who think they “can’t dance” because they were taught that to “know” how to dance is to move in a certain way. On the other hand is a luscious playground for experienced dancers alike craving for a free space where they can let loose with their peers.
Ecstatic Dance floor is a playground, an environment without observers, judgements, posturing, attitudes, conversations, shoes, alcohol, fragrances or smoke. A space where everyone can feel spontaneously safe to try new things and push their edges. This is the dance you dance like nobody is watching. Allowing your body to move freely without judgments or concerns for the “grace” or beauty of the dance, just getting lost in the dance into a space of no-mind. A safe space to explore healing through communion, individually, with the divine through dancing, without the iterations of the mind while talking & drinking, common in the nightclub seen. You have no one to impress, our attention is focused in ourselves not in others so you can be utterly yourself, getting down, letting loose, allowing your emotions, dreams and prayers to dance themselves, freeing your mind and body while connecting with yourSelf, others & Spirit in a safe and healthy way.

Ecstatic Dance empowers and invites people of all shapes, ages, sizes and backgrounds to freely express themselves; the liberating atmosphere creates a melting pot of acceptance and the fearlessness with which others move gives permission and courage to dance without inhibition.
